Doing a Paternity Test in South Africa

Doing a paternity test in South Africa has become affordable and doable with Geneway. A paternity test can be done using the cells from the inside of the cheek – just like the other DNA tests that our experts conduct. DNA paternity tests are 99% accurate, and their results are highly reliable.

What is a Paternity Test?
A paternity test is done to determine whether or not a particular man is the biological father of a child. The test is done on the mother, the man in question, and the child using a simple, painless mouth swab which is then sent to the laboratory for testing.

Why Do People Get Paternity Tests?

If the biological father of the child is in question, a paternity test can be used to reveal the truth. If the father’s name is not on the birth certificate of the child, further evidence that there is a direct relation may be necessary. There are many different reasons why people get paternity tests.

As Legal Evidence for Child Support: A paternity test is useful when a biological father is trying to get out of obligations by claiming that the child is not his, or if the mother is claiming that the man is the biological father to ensure that he pays the support. The test will show conclusive evidence that the man is (or is not) the biological father of the child. The court may then rule accordingly.

To Prove Inheritance/Insurance Claims: Many insurance companies will require hard evidence that the child is a direct relation to their father (figure). They may need this information so that they can be added to their father’s insurance policy.

Law firms may require physical evidence that the child is in direct relation to the man so that they can determine whether they are viable to receive an inheritance once the father passes away.

Can You Make Someone Do A Paternity Test?

Only a court can make orders for a paternity test. In order to qualify for paternity testing with Geneway, you’ll need to provide a signed consent form from each patient involved. Part of the terms and conditions of the paternity test from Geneway is that the information and sample supplied to Geneway is voluntarily given, without undue influence from any party, and not given under any duress.
